Better Armenia
Empowering, Educating & and Elevating Our Communities
A Better Armenia is a non-profit organization based in Yerevan, Armenia. The organization was formed in early 2019, with the combined efforts and expertise of a team of Armenian, Iranian and Canadian experts. Our young team has been committed to environmental stewardship through the development of educational programs, consulting in the waste management industry, and engaging in innovative research for sorting, recycling and upcycling.
Since Armenia is a small country located in a unique climate and geographic location, there is limited space to locate landfill sites at safe distances from populated areas. Unfortunately, evidence suggests that dangerous, toxic waste has routinely been dumped in uncovered and unsuitable locations all over the country. Irresponsible waste disposal has led to the pollution of over half of Armenian rivers with toxins and waste, especially plastic, impacting marine life and damaging the ecosystem. The country’s economic development has led to intensive production as well as importation of plastic goods.
As Yerevan residents, the team is no stranger to the waste management challenges in Armenia. Together we aim to tackle the issues of waste management and environmental sustainability and are committed to ensuring the actions we take today will ensure a better tomorrow for Armenia and the world.
Mission
Our mission at A Better Armenia is to inspire change and raise awareness around the impact of poor waste management on our future. We want to preserve the beautiful nature of Armenia and inspire and engage the next generation of environmental stewards to understand what threatens our future, our shared responsibility, and how it is on each and every one of us to do our part for a better future and a Better Armenia. We do so through taking direct action to empower and educate people in rural communities as well as larger urban hubs.
Vision
Our vision is to pave the way for Armenia to become a hub for comprehensive, ethical waste management in the region, and lead neighboring countries in their efforts to adopt best practices and contribute to the global environmental movement.

Practises
There is very little that is truly waste. Most of what we consider waste can be recycled, reused, upcycled, or turned into something new! We will share some useful tips about how you can be a part of this movement.
